Even though his political aspirations never reached to Arizona, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is a figure who has national recognition for his strong opinions and constant involvement in current events. When the presidential transition occurred just last year, Giuliani was considered a frontrunner for national appointed positions; today, though, he is in the news for a much more personal reason.
Giuliani and his wife have decided to end their marriage in divorce. This is Giuliani’s third marriage and his union to his wife lasted for 15 years. His soon-to-be ex-wife has indicated that she will fight for her martial property rights, including to her rights in properties in the state of New York as well as other locations.
While divorce is always a unique issue because the facts related to a couple’s marriage are specific to how the parties lived their lives, Giuliani’s third divorce may involve some rather interesting details. If he is still responsible for spousal support to either or both of his two previous wives he may find himself paying up to three separate support obligations. Additionally, both Giuliani and his estranged wife each have children from prior marriages and each may have an interest in protecting their assets so that their children could benefit from them later on.
Many parties who enter into high profile marriages execute prenuptial agreements to ensure that their financial interests are protected in the event that they divorce. As Giuliani and his wife move toward their own high asset divorce, the facts of their situation may encourage readers to discuss their family law concerns with their own divorce attorneys.
