Family Law Attorney Victor A. Garnice is a creative problem solver with a proven trial and appellate practice. Respected for his skills as a strategist, negotiator, and litigator, Victor passionately advocates for our clients. Steady and kind, he has a calming influence. You just can’t ruffle his feathers.
Victor has a particular interest in divorce and family law cases with interstate and international dimensions (such as international custody), something he has litigated extensively. Even though he has been involved in complex multi-state and multi-national family law litigation, Victor is genuinely down to earth. He is a great listener who never stops caring about the people he represents.
When explaining legal concepts to clients, Victor speaks plainly and clearly so they understand how the law applies to their facts and circumstances. “Clients who fully grasp the legal aspects of the case,” says Victor, “can thoughtfully make important decisions about custody, property division, financial support, and so on.” Sometimes family law cases are further complicated by issues involving other areas of law. In those instances, Victor applies his knowledge and experience with real estate, bankruptcy, and commercial litigation to the case.
Victor has a bit of a dry sense of humor. One time, a client of his desired a divorce decree suitable for framing. “I drafted a decree in rhyme and presented it to the Court Commissioner to sign,” chuckled Victor. “He crossed himself, approved, and then signed. In fact, he kept a copy under the glass top of his desk until he retired! The client was happy.”
A native New Yorker, Victor graduated high school at age 16 and, by age 20, had earned his BS from SUNY at New Paltz (1971). He obtained his JD from Brooklyn Law School in Brooklyn, NY (1975).
Victor served in the USAF Reserves. He has been a member of the State Bar of Arizona for 40+ years and is admitted to practice law in Arizona and New York, as well as numerous Federal courts. He also served two terms as a Maricopa County Judge Pro Tempore and as an arbitrator.
Personal Life
More than anything, Victor enjoys his role as husband, parent, and grandparent. He and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 30th of 2022.
While two rat terriers snooze comfortably at his feet, Victor enjoys his hobbies as a philatelist and numismatist. Setting stamp and coin collection aside, he can be found studying conversational Hebrew or working the New York Times crossword or Sudoku puzzle.
Victor and his wife have traveled throughout the U.S., the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. Victor’s favorite movie genre is comedy, “especially Mel Brooks’ comedies.” A Mizrahi rock music fan, his favorite cuisines are Italian, Japanese, and Middle Eastern.
